When this part failed recently, my doors would not lock, the sensors indicated that the driver's door was open. In this condition, you cannot lock the doors and the alarm will sound while driving. You can take the door apart and disengage the drive, this allows the doors to be locked using the car's key fob and buttons, except for the driver's door you have to manually lock it from the outside with the key, perfect for Arizona 110 deg if with my two little ones kids, it makes my life easy.
