A few years ago I bought a Lasko ceramic radiant heater and was very disappointed. The ceramic element (I think it was a component) gave off a horrible smell. It was so bad that I couldn't use the heater. Therefore, for a long time I doubted that I bought this model. Well I was not disappointed with this purchase. I had an initial smell from the device but it went away after around 30-60 minutes of use. I would recommend running these types of heaters for an hour or two in an unoccupied room to "bake" any smell. The heating works well. You can set the temperature in one degree increments. I like this detail to set the temperature accurately. It turns off automatically when it reaches the set temperature (actually two degrees above temperature). Comes with a good, functional remote control. It can also be set to rotate forward and backward. Another important thing for me about electric heaters is how noisy they are; this heater is very quiet. For the price I paid I think it was a good deal.
