Not as good as before. But still cheap insurance

Let me start by saying this is my 3rd time buying this particular brand of water seal so I can't hit too hard. but it's not what it used to be. Our first Quick Dam (17ft) lasted almost 2 1/2 years and during those years had many cycles from dry to wet and back, combined with the back and forth on the paved driveway (we use it to push rainwater through the door from prevent). our two car garage) and although we were advertised as drivable we chose NOT to risk it. Eventually, however, it wore out and wouldn't stretch anymore, so we bought another (17ft) Quick Dam hoping for another good time run. Unfortunately, we noticed the difference immediately. While the product initially worked very well, it has started to lose some filler (pulp?) through the bottom seams/seams that help form the 'leg' of the dam. We have attributed this loss to a newer sewing/embroidery style compared to the original. This slow decline continued throughout the spring/summer/fall season leaving us with a minimum of usable product by the end of the year. Chalking it up to maybe coming from the "bad" line, we bought three more (including this one) because it's a cheap investment in water damage protection (for us). We bought 2-10ft dams and it's 17ft because we wanted to try and move only 1 10ft section instead of having to move/push back 1/2 of the 17ft dam in front of the garage door normally. This 17ft weir is still in the package, unused as we are using 2 10ft weirs to provide a wider area of coverage. As a result, in addition to the difference in the width of the Quick Dams, there is still the problem that the product loses filler. I have attached a photo showing the loss of filling (white material in the seam of the dam) after using the dam for the first time. There is NO significant loss of fill, and while some loss is to be expected, after only half a dozen dry/wet/dry cycles, it's not as "full" or water-blocking as new. I can only attribute this to the product having less absorbent material inside after each use. The product really works and works quite well, I was just hoping for a longer product life. For the money, this is a good water damage prevention product, just not as good as it used to be.

Pros
  • Compact and lightweight, keep until needed
Cons
  • Unusable features
