This gate is a good option for the top of the stairs.
I bought this to use at the top of the stairs and it works much better than the wooden gate I had before. One downside is that the hooks fell off after just 48 hours, stripping the paint off the walls. I screwed my own hooks into the walls and all is well. I would recommend.
