Worked when other cables failed

I needed a DVI to VGA cable so my graphics card could read my old display's EDID. EDID tells the graphics card what it is connected to. Other cables I tried didn't allow the card to read EDID and only allowed 4:3 resolution on my 16:9 plasma. My graphics card assumed it was connected to a 4:3 monitor. This cable allowed my card to correctly read the EDID, identify the exact monitor model, and select a 16:9 resolution. The images are now displayed in the correct format.
