Review on Fujinon XF16MmF2 8 WR Lens Silver by John Pineda

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Compact, sharp, handy

I've had this lens for a month now and have used it on both the X-T2 and X-E2. I'm a photographer who rarely shoots video, so I can't comment on that aspect of the lens. I had a 24mm or equivalent lens on every brand of camera I had. I like the perspective and the slightly wider rendering without the distortion that length brings to my photo. The Fujinon 16mm f2.8 has a very familiar place in my kit. Very small and light, it is a good choice for handheld shooting when walking around the city. I mainly shoot landscapes, but that's not what I bought this lens for, I prefer slightly longer lenses for that. For me, the 16mm 2.8 lens is good for shooting indoors and cityscapes. The smaller and more compact f2.8 lens size works very well with any of my cameras, and the quiet and fast focusing means I haven't missed a shot yet. The closest focusing distance is around 6 inches, which is very good for tabletop shots. I chose the f2.8 version over f1.4 because I rarely shoot wide open and often prefer f4 over f8 for most images. If bokeh and shallow depth of field are important to you, this lens is probably not for you. However, I find that at f/2.8 this lens renders the background really well in a way that adds depth to my main subject. Pretty good, not just "good enough". I've found that I like two main lenses for photography: first, a set of fixed focal length lenses specifically designed to slow down and think about each shot or situation, and then a set of dual zoom lenses for general photography. The main kit consists of a Rokinon 12mm and four Fujinon 16, 23, 35 and 50 compact cameras. Adding a 16mm f2.8 to my range of prime lenses feels like I have an almost complete kit have that only lacks a medium telephoto lens. Both images were taken with a 16mm f2.8 lens. Handheld black and white 3 frame HDR footage of a gas station sooc .jpg shot with Classic Chrome. *EDIT 7/15/19 * Added third dog pic. Hands-free at 18", 1/20, f2.8, ISO 800, single point AF. Black and white LUT added, no sharpening. I continue to be impressed with this lens and its image rendering and can't do the 16mm 2.8 recommend enough.

Pros
  • Camera lenses
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
