This sanding block is nearly identical to the Veritas sanding block sold by Lee Valley (double the price). The Veritas block has 5 stars - the best workmanship, best knurled knob and springs. Functionally, however, they are both about the same. I have several of these types with different grit sandpaper. I use them daily. Tip: Cut an 11-inch sheet of sandpaper in half (2 5-1/2-inch sheets). Cut these 2 sheets in thirds to get 6 3" x 5-1/2" sheets. Place a sheet on the edge of a bench with a small edge. The base of the sanding bar is centered on the paper. Wrap the edges of the paper around the base. Take it in the palm of your hand and hold the paper with your thumb and forefinger. Screw the top onto the base. The springs pull the paper taut when you tighten the handle. Use a full sheet of sandpaper with no waste.
