Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Nicama SGM5 Cardioid Condenser Interview Microphone: Ideal for DSLR Camera Nikon Canon Sony Mirrorless Camera DV Camcorder by Roshan Schram

Easy to use, good upgrade from built-in mics

This active cardioid microphone has a 1" polar pattern and a number of nice features for such a basic mic as inexpensive. Plugs directly into most modern cameras hook it up, I use it with an old Canon Rebel and it's great. There is a power switch with a 10dB cutoff for very noisy environments to reduce clipping. The other switch has a high pass crossover switch to cut low frequency noise This mic is relatively directional and will generally pick up whichever subject you're best aiming at. There are no gain settings other than the -10dB switch and the camera does a pretty good job of automatically adjusting levels. This mic is such a big improvement over the built in mic that I would recommend it to anyone D The included hanger is plastic only and can break, but it has worked well for me so far and I haven't had any problems. This mic is a standard 1 inch size and is similar to the Rode Videomic I was using before it broke. Considering the price, the sound quality of this mic is very impressive and you'll probably need to spend around $150 or more to get the best quality. It's perfect for my use and it's really improved the audio for all my DSLR shots. A nice upgrade, especially for older camera users who don't want to spend a lot of money on a proprietary gun mic.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Available in white only
