Of the three leaf guards I tried, the Amerimax Lock-In was definitely the easiest to install. No drilling of holes or screws required which is a big plus when working on stairs. Carefully fold up the back edge of the railings to slide them under the bottom edge of the shingles. Depending on how the shingles are nailed, it may sometimes be necessary to trim the guard rails, but with good compound shears this is not a problem. I also think this design is best for protection from heavy rain. On steeply pitched roofs (40 degrees or more) I have been able to mount upside down, ie with the gutter edge slot facing up rather than down (see photo). catches a heavy rainstorm and doesn't seem to catch many leaves. (My house is surrounded by deciduous trees. Fall is over and I haven't cleaned the leaf screen.)
