Useless Security - Building Materials

My house has a fairly low pitched roof over the porch. But the water flows straight through the gutters. Useless. I removed them from the gutter to allow the gutters to do their job. The corner of the grid goes up, not down. Water flows down it, not into a ditch. Many of the reviews seem to be related to similar products rather than specific products. Ratings seem to be lumped together. Confound. This review is for Amerimax Home Products 636025 Lock-In Gutter Guard, Black (Pack of 25)

Poor for a 4 " or 5 " gutter

I'm sure they're probably pretty good for a 6" gutter. However, they're not good for 5" (especially if your shingles overlap the gutter a bit). You should bend them just enough so that the bend is an inch above the gutter, so they're visible from the ground. Besides, it is quite difficult to bend them during installation I can't imagine how awful they would be for 4". I don't know why they don't have 3 different versions/sizes. Too bad I didn't go for one of the other options have.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

Installed a few months ago, works great!

After much research on different gutter systems I settled on Amerimax gutter guards. They are very easy to assemble by trimming the corners with tin snips. A few months later I went to the roof to see how they work. I was pleasantly surprised to find no dirt in the drains. I have several trees and usually have to clean the gutters every three to four weeks. This is the best DIY I've done in years. Thank you Amerimax!

Good product if you don't have to spend thousands on gutters.

Once I got the hang of it, the installation went smoothly. I only cut metal with scissors. Following another recommendation, I created a tool to help me. It was a metal hook. Once a guard is set, it will move as you set the next. I used a metal hook to grab it and put it back in place. I cut my hands. I tried using gloves but sometimes they got in my way. I love that you can easily make custom cuts if needed. I'm glad I bought them. Only time will tell if they hold up. I am almost 60 years old,

Beware of accident during delivery.

Buy better at Home Depot. Either at the same price or cheaper. The reason I recommend buying from Home Depot is so you can fix the doglegs to your gutter guard. At some point during my delivery, the box must have fallen on a corner. That's why I bend the corners of the gutter fences. As for the product, I've only had it on my gutters for about two months. This worked as expected. I would recommend that you buy a manual broom and attach it to a pole so you can sweep the top of the gutter guards…

Very easy to install. Must be!

You insert each 3 foot gutter protector under the shingles and then attach it to the gutter. Really easy! I like how they overlap about 1cm at each end so one of them doesn't come loose, but I'm flexible enough that you can remove one if needed. I used gutter shears to cut off the excess length at the last end of the gutter. I just hope they are corrosion resistant, although they are listed with a protective coating for long life. That's my only concern. We must wait a winter when it will be…

Easy installation!

Of the three leaf guards I tried, the Amerimax Lock-In was definitely the easiest to install. No drilling of holes or screws required which is a big plus when working on stairs. Carefully fold up the back edge of the railings to slide them under the bottom edge of the shingles. Depending on how the shingles are nailed, it may sometimes be necessary to trim the guard rails, but with good compound shears this is not a problem. I also think this design is best for protection from heavy rain. On…

Installation tips are easy

I like them so far but only 4 stars because I can't comment on how they held up all winter because I just installed them. I bought a box that covered my entire house with three sections remaining. I'll keep these parts in the garage although I doubt I'll need them. Measure first and buy enough. A box is about 70 feet long (NOT 75 because each section overlaps by half an inch and because you're cutting a piece in half with each pass). problems and I have some advice. 1) After cleaning the…
