This toy could appeal to many people. My 2 year old, who is very interested in his letters, prefers a toy that teaches and reinforces the sounds of the letters. He likes the Letter Parade setting where there is a parade song and you can add animals to the song by choosing a letter. The pictures are cute and this is his favorite setting. It has other settings showing how each letter is drawn in uppercase and lowercase. He's not interested yet. And there is another setting that encourages some drawing skills and letter fun where they show you how to make "letter animals". He will show you how to turn a letter into a drawing of an animal (whose name starts with that letter) by adding lines, circles, etc. My 10 year old enjoys this. I'm sure my readers will benefit a lot from the toy when they grow up. What I don't like about the toy is the design of the real plastic letters and the way they go in and out of the toy. It's hard to remove them! They expect you to pull the letter down and toward you to free yourself from the little plastic plugs holding it in place. You can't just pick them up and put them back in or you risk damaging the letter. It took me a minute to figure out how to do it properly. My son has a hard time taking them off and asking for help, but when he puts them back on he just tucks them in. The location of the w in the backpack is now corrupted and the w is not pronounced in its place when we try to close and lock the backpack. This is very annoying because when you close the backpack, it falls out of place and prevents it from closing. My son really enjoyed opening and closing it on his own and now he can't do it on his own anymore. This happened within the first 48 hours of the game. I want the letters to go in and out easily and not fall out. In addition, the toy's instructions instruct the child to choose a letter, place it in the correct place for the letters, and press down. So if we just remove all the letters, things get a little weird. I think they might just say press the letter. Also, letters when pressed by a child do not always activate the button below. You must indent the entire letter, not just one side. I think the design could be better. In general, we really like the toy, but it could be improved.
