I bought a replacement gas cap to fix the check engine light on my car only to have the light come back on after the first stop to fill up. When examining a new lid I found that there was virtually no sealing factor as the lid clicked and would not close after being partially rotated. To fix the check engine light I cleaned the tank filler neck as well as the gasket on the old cap and after resetting the check engine light I had no more problems. Since the old cap gasket is over twenty years old, my plan is to keep the new cap and use its gasket on the old cap when the check engine light comes on again after filling up.
