Determine if your vehicle is flex fuel or not

You worked great for me. One of my sensors on my Suburban 5.3 Flex Fuel is broken. I've been there in the past and have done it with individual things that should be done in groups (like speakers and now O2 sensors). So I swapped all four. After 12 years and 149,000 miles, they didn't give up easily. Cut the wiring harness so you can use the closed end of the box wrench (yes, that's your point of no return, but you must). Soaking in rust remover didn't help. I had to heat the tube plugs with a propane torch (MAPP gas). This broke them. I twisted it back and forth like a faucet and pulled it out. To be on the safe side, I screwed the thread into the pipe cap. The truck works great again, no more codes. The reason my title says to identify motor type is that flex trucks use the same sensor (square connector) at all four points, while non-flex uses two square and two flat connectors. Your VIN is the key to your engine type.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Vulgarity
