Backwashing is likely required for normal operation.
Works as a filter. However, I couldn't backwash the filter because it wasn't installed between a water pressure source like a bladder tank and a well. I had to remove the filter and clean it with a brush. When I open the valve at the bottom of the filter, some dirt comes out, but the filter still has to be cleaned manually. Otherwise it clogs.
