Doesn't slide well and paint is peeling

I've been using SB hooks for over 30 years and this hook is unlike any other Bates hook I've had. I don't know if the quality has gone down or what. Yellow color is, well, "sticky" for lack of a better term. It does not run smoothly through the yarn. I tried buffing it with a soft cloth to see if there was any coating on it that might come off and the yellow paint started peeling off the cloth. I ended up buffing the paint with fine sandpaper and some steel wool and it works better but still not what I expect from this brand. I will say that I have a whole set of spare Tunisian Knitters Pride hooks with good cords, but the heads of the hooks and the edge of the hook itself are so sharp that I snapped the fiber with each stitch. If you're used to a Bates-style hook head, look very closely at good sets to see how sharp they are before taking the plunge. This hook is sharper than regular Bates hooks as others have noted, but is still less sharp than a Boye hook by comparison.
