The mortise lock on our patio door (which we use a lot) broke so we decided to replace the entire mechanism as the outside handle fell apart when we removed it. Our old TV had a key lock (which we never used) so we figured that would be the next option. There were no instructions, so you'll have to go to YouTube to learn how to remove the old lock and install the new one. This set had 2 very short screws to hold the lock in place and we couldn't get them to hook and ended up losing the lock in the door. (Be sure to insert something through the bottom screw hole to prevent this and hold the stiffener in place). We got a new mortise lock from Home Depot with rather long screws. We ended up using our old inside handle as it was of much better quality and the bar to open the lock was already the right length. The stalk on the inside handle on this set was too long and had to be carefully cut off for use with the keyed lock and the screw holes in the door were also too small. The shank on the outer key handle had to be trimmed and this had to be done carefully to ensure it was the correct length. After many hours and choice words I finally got it working. That's why we only used one outside handle with a lock from this set. We really never used our old key lock as it would only be used as a last resort if we locked ourselves in. Before you buy this, think carefully and be prepared for hard times.
