The gate is fine but the latch is weak

There are 3 other gates in my house very similar to this one. The main difference lies in the type of lock. In all cases, the latch is plastic and quite thin. I have forgotten the brand of my other 3 although they are still the same brand. I like this gate but the latches don't work anymore so we keep climbing over the gate instead of opening it. At least it's great exercise. Anyway, I see the same with these gates. You just have to remove the plastic fasteners. they don't last. It is particularly difficult to open and close, and a 26-meter man can open it. It took her 2 days to open the gate to find out and in fact she even tried it on the second day and has now mastered it. So I wouldn't put this next to steps as your child will most likely figure out the latch and then be able to escape and get to the stairs. I think sixty bucks is too much for it considering the cheap bar. The tension method is exactly the same as my other gates and is a bit tricky to set up at first, but once in place it's pretty good. I have to check and tighten them from time to time as they seem to work themselves out. This can be caused by swelling and shrinking of the wood under the influence of the weather, as well as slight movements, shock and vibration. In any case, you should check from time to time to make sure it's still safe. My two little ones somehow freed the floor and were able to fold it down like a dog flap and crawl out from under it πŸ˜’πŸ™„ my little devils.
