The original motor lasted 12 years and only failed because the plastic housing fell apart. A new replacement engine is made in the same way, but inspection found the defective part to be the weakest link. In this case, if you find that this motor needs to be replaced, expect associated problems. The valving system (cams, seals and rotary valve port plugs is rotated by the motor/gearbox. Any friction, sticking or resistance in the valving system transfers the load to the motor which obviously caused my water softener to fail.
