Review on Klein Tools NCVT-2 Voltage Tester: Reliable Non-Contact Dual Range Tester with 3 m Drop Protection by Juan Gomez

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Everything seems to be under pressure.

This is one of the worst NCV testers I have ever used. First, it constantly detects high voltage. Do you wave them in the air? 120v. On the other hand, touch 120V, touch DC plug 12V, high voltage! I've read the manual and the diagram and high voltage elements only appear when it's green or blue mode. Nothing in the low voltage column works in any mode. Everything is high voltage except high voltage power lines. but when I put it on the power cord, sometimes it warns, sometimes not. My old other brand could reliably see 120 volts from half an inch away as long as I didn't drop it too often. This one in a 12/2 bundle should actually touch the black wire insulation to give a good warning or should be inserted into the hot side of the outlet. Anyway, I use mine as a secondary confirmation for the voltmeter, and this thing is 0 on the reliability scale.

Pros
  • practically
Cons
  • almost never
