Description of Klein Tools NCVT-2 Voltage Tester: Reliable Non-Contact Dual Range Tester with 3 m Drop Protection

Voltage Tester automatically detects and indicates low voltage (12-48V AC) and standard voltage (48-1000V AC) allowing broad application. Non-contact detection of standard voltage in cables, cords, circuit breakers, lighting fixtures, switches, outlets and wires. Non-contact detection of low voltage in security, entertainment, communications, environmental control, and irrigation systems. High intensity, bright green LED indicates the tester is operational and aids in illuminating the workspace. Dual Range testing, select 12-1000V AC or 48-1000V AC.

Unreliable and difficult to use

There is a button that should perform 4 different functions when pressed in different states or for different times. Just add a few buttons? But the real crime here is how inaccurate it is. Sometimes this indicates an electrical circuit. Sometimes it won't. Sometimes it refers to a *Chocolate Easter Bunny*. It shows when I touch it. Then it does nothing if it comes into contact with a live wire. Garbage.

Pros
  • Dope
Cons
  • Slightly torn

can't be trusted at all. Works inconsistently and unpredictably.

I can plug it into an outlet and it works 2 times out of 3. Then I can put it in my pocket and walk away and it works as soon as I put it in my pocket. In my opinion, this is something you don't want to trust your safety to. I've had too much time to return or replace it so I'm sticking with it, but I'd be wary of buying it. Don't know if it's just what I got or not, other reviews seem to like it. That's why I bought it, there were primarily reviews and the name Klein. Unfortunately I will look

Small NCVT-2 Overview

Small NCVT-2. It works as advertised. Identifies the "hot" wire in the group of wires that I care about the most. Also shows low voltage if this setting is enabled. There are 2 settings. One shows both low and high voltage (12-1000V), the other setting shows high voltage only (49-1000V). Switching between settings is as easy as holding the power button for 2 seconds. The color of the LED in the transparent tip shows which setting you have selected (blue or green). I don't like all things small,

Pros
  • Everything is great!
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

Everything seems to be under pressure.

This is one of the worst NCV testers I have ever used. First, it constantly detects high voltage. Do you wave them in the air? 120v. On the other hand, touch 120V, touch DC plug 12V, high voltage! I've read the manual and the diagram and high voltage elements only appear when it's green or blue mode. Nothing in the low voltage column works in any mode. Everything is high voltage except high voltage power lines. but when I put it on the power cord, sometimes it warns, sometimes not. My old other

Excellent customer service

I am a regular customer simply because of their outstanding customer service. Prior to this purchase, all fourteen items in my previous orders were bulletproof. I bought this dual voltage non-contact voltage detector for my home renovation. It worked perfectly for a few months, but then it started activating on its own. It will be sitting there with nothing around (or touching) if it suddenly activates. I have used this device a lot and appreciated the quality of the voltage detection. Because…

I purchased this no contract dual band Klein voltage tester based on the brand quality and reviews here at Revain. I have used this device in troubleshooting and replacing lighting fixtures around a very extravagant waterfall design. Electricity and water don't really mix, especially for me as an aspiring weekend warrior/electrician looking to become. After using this device for several hours, I really started to rely on its accuracy. I was able to complete the lighting replacement with…

Just saved me from the shock! Buy it and make sure the power is off

When I changed the bathroom light I thought I found the right switch because the light went out. The electrical box was never labeled so I found the switch the old fashioned way (checked one by one until I realized the bathroom light went out). Sounds easy right?!? When I bought this tester last week for another project (it worked great on this one) a voice in my head told me to double check my new tester and check for live wires. The thing kept beeping as I brought the tester to the bathroom…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Works well but has false positives

For the most part, this device is very easy to set up and understand, and will help you stay safe. To test if it works, test it in a working outlet, then unplug the circuit from that outlet in the box and test again. If you're actually using it on a refurbished outlet, check it out once before removing the cover etc. Then, with the cover removed, check the entire interior of the outlet again. You can have a loose (and live) wire if the people who built your house sucked like I did. Multiple…

Not as boring as I had hoped.

I bought this non-contact voltage tester because it is made by Klein Tools, a reputable tool manufacturer. Before I bought this one, I bought another generic version of this tool. it worked amazingly well. Anyway, it broke at some point. I was thinking of replacing it with a Klein Tools NCVT-3, but Klein's high level detectors don't have a protruding tip to plug the detector into an outlet. A feature I find useful when trying to find a switch or circuit breaker for an outlet. So I chose this…
