When I changed the bathroom light I thought I found the right switch because the light went out. The electrical box was never labeled so I found the switch the old fashioned way (checked one by one until I realized the bathroom light went out). Sounds easy right?!? When I bought this tester last week for another project (it worked great on this one) a voice in my head told me to double check my new tester and check for live wires. The thing kept beeping as I brought the tester to the bathroom light. I was certain it was broken when I plugged it into the outlet my bathroom light was plugged into, as well as the bathroom light itself. After some hesitation, I went and flipped a few more switches for the adjoining rooms, one at a time the other, and sure enough my tester went silent when I turned off 2 more switches. So 3 switches were wired or wired to my bathroom light! This tester saved my life and no doubt saved me from a trip to the ER. I have an old ranch from the 1950's. Buy this. Be confident in your work. It will always be in my tool box! Very easy to use. Also made in the USA.
