Overall this is a great product for heating food in the microwave. However, as noted by some reviews, there isn't enough depth to grab and remove the lid from a plate or food container. To resolve this issue, use the following materials and steps to install nylon hardware as an easy way to lift the lid. Nylon is dishwasher and microwave safe. See the two attached photos for reference. For two caps you will need a drill, 3/16" bit, (2) Menard #2017761, 10-24 x 1" nylon head machine screw; (4) Menard's #2017868, 10-24 nylon hex nuts; 3/8" open-end wrench, flathead screwdriver. Total cost for nylon fittings is about $3. You can also purchase nylon hardware from other sources. Make sure the hex nut fits snugly between the two crescent-shaped sections. 1) Flip the lid completely together and turn it over so the bottom is facing up 2) place a piece of scrap wood under the lid to prevent the drill bit penetrating the lid material from damaging the underside 3) drill a through hole in the center of the cover and remove the burrs 4) Thread a hex nut onto the cap screw until it approaches the head of the screw 5) Pass the threads through the hole in the top of the cover so that the threads cross the two protruding crescent shaped notches on the underside of the cover 6) Thread the second hex nut onto the exposed threads until the threads are about 3/16" out of the nut r sticking out. 7) Position the nut so that it fits snugly between the two crescent-shaped recesses and insert the bottom of the bolt between the two crescent-shaped recesses. You may need to use a screwdriver to adjust the length of the exposed screw. 8) While holding the nut and threading it into the bottom of the cover, thread the other hex nut down until it is snug against the top of the cover. 9) Use a 3/8" open end wrench to tighten the top hex nut. 10) To adjust the length of the screw at the top of the cover, use a wrench and screwdriver to loosen the fastener, adjust and then the to tighten the fastener.
