I bought this device at my parents house. Her bedroom was across the house from her WiFi hotspot and her Roku media player couldn't maintain a stable connection to stream videos over the internet. I bought it to extend the range of my existing WiFi by placing it about halfway between my bedroom and my original hotspot. Once set up, the device did its job well and roku had no more trouble staying connected. Additionally, iPhones can now pick up Wi-Fi signals throughout the home as well. Savings on the use of data by the operator. The setup is not intuitive. I'm an IT professional and I had a hard time following the instructions that came with it. I ended up finding other reviews that explained the process much better. One thing I found funny was that my device came with a hardware switch to switch between the three modes when the instructions that came with it said I had to change modes after logging in. I just noticed that there is a switch. It must be something they added in newer versions but forgot to document. In addition to the recommendations in the reviews. One thing I found helpful was using a DIFFERENT SSID for this additional hotspot. Before I did that, Roku sometimes switched between original and new. And there would be cutouts (as others have mentioned). Once I gave the new hotspot a new SSID, roku only connects to the closest one. This saves you a headache.
