I recently messed up my favorite Hakko tip by foolishly contaminating it with something (perhaps silicone) that threw off all attempts to clean and re-tin it Solder back to acceptable condition. I've even tried cleaning the tip with a Scotchbrite sponge and then using the Thermaltronics Tip-Tinner (which is a decent product in itself) but that didn't help. I thought this tip didn't work, but I decided to try Hakko Cleaning Paste before I gave up. IMPRESSIVE! A 3 second dip in Hakko paste (with tip at 600F), then a quick wipe with a cleaning wire pad and damp sponge and the tip is like new again. I can hardly believe it! I'm definitely a fan!
