NOT for sensitive applications but good for a $20 meter

The device is useful, especially for the price considering the limitations. The principle of operation of a thermocouple is as follows. Voltage measurement at a junction between two different types of metal. To measure this voltage and determine its temperature, you must subtract the voltages produced by other junctions, which are temperature dependent. A good quality thermocouple meter will do this "cold junction compensation" by measuring the temperature inside the meter with a diode or thermistor. Initially I thought this meter didn't have cold junction compensation, but after some testing it turned out that it does have cold junction compensation, it's just not that accurate. at an ambient temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, the measuring device shows a deviation of approx. -1 degrees Celsius (when measuring ice slush, which gives a good reference value of 0 degrees). Keep in mind that outdoor use in hot or cold conditions can result in multiple degrees of failure. Since I never leave the meter alone, I checked the meter's wattage and voltage range. The device operates on 4.5V from 3 standard AAA batteries. It consumes about 1.078mA when the backlight is off and about 8mA when the backlight is on, which turns off after 5 seconds. the current consumption is between 4.5V and 2V when the device turns off suddenly. The backlight works up to a voltage of about 3V and the low battery indicator turns on at about 2.5V. With the Duracell Coppertop battery pack, the device should last about 1200 hours or about 50 days. I converted my battery to run on a 1 second lipo battery and added a TP4056 charging board to allow for microUSB charging. I think it will be very helpful for me.

Pros
  • Test, measure and inspect
Cons
  • So far so good
