Best Sensors for the Price

Accuracy: Measure the temperature in the field with my $150 HVAC fieldpiece thermocouple. For those who have complained about accuracy or response times, please understand that these are conductive and not infrared sensors. You must wait for the heat transfer to complete to get the correct reading. To compare multiple sensors, you need to bulk all the sensors together to eliminate human error.

Looks good on paper, poor performance in the real world

I bought this hoping to measure condenser superheat and subcooling as well as evaporator coil delta T. Absolutely useless in the firebox, couldn't keep a constant reading and the readings it showed seemed meaningless (hundreds of degrees when the temp is clearly between 40F and 70F). The packaging is great and it seems like it would be a great design if it had functionality. look elsewhere After that, I didn't even try overheating and hypothermia.

  • Great for a small home

Useful for HVAC maintenance

Easy to use. Buttons and functions are clearly arranged. The LCD was sharp with large prints. I've been using two temperature sensors primarily for HVAC measurements and so far they seem to be accurate. The only thing that bothered me was the automatic shutdown. After about five minutes, the device switched itself off to save the battery. This was inconvenient when I was taking readings from the AC service port. However, the temperature readings seemed to be stable even when the device was…

Expected more from Digital Thermometer

I read the reviews and felt it was worth buying the product to check the air conditioning line temperature. I'm a DYI guy and the sensor is essential for home use. Probably used 4 times, mostly just to check. Needed today to check the overheating of the air conditioner using a piston system. When I used it to test the temperature of a wet bulb, it started giving me readings that got worse over time. Then it got completely dark. I replaced three AAA batteries but the problem didn't go away. I…

Excellent quality, good gauge, sensors are ok

Good for the price (but assuming the thermocouples aren't very accurate). Comparison with a calibrated Fluke thermocouple reader (see figures): - Assuming thermocouples have large welds and give a reading about 2°C lower than Fluke (ambient temperature and boiling water). - Using Fluke thermocouples like Fluke and this gauge, the readings were less than 1°C off and very close to 100°C for boiling water. This device responds slightly slower than the Fluke even when using the same probe (5 second

Nice dual input thermometer with some UI quirks.

I should give four stars for the money. See, it's not a Fluke, but it has two inputs, two displays, and supports the full range of thermocouple types. He has some peculiarities. The backlight turns on for two seconds when the device is turned on. There's no way to change this, and there's no way to turn the backlight on or leave it on. What's the point? It's a beautiful white LED backlight. It would be great to use it. You have the choice of auto shut off after 1 minute (one minute!) or no auto

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Functionality

I was surprised at the price and functionality of this thermometer. Most importantly, it can work with Type E and Type J thermocouples in addition to Type K (included). I've tested it with Type K and E ice and boiling point thermocouples and the readings were within 1.2,1.5C of the expected temperatures. Interestingly, the difference seems to be due to the cold junction compensation, because with the most accurate thermocouple E, the temperature of ice was +1°C and that of boiling water was…

NOT for sensitive applications but good for a $20 meter

The device is useful, especially for the price considering the limitations. The principle of operation of a thermocouple is as follows. Voltage measurement at a junction between two different types of metal. To measure this voltage and determine its temperature, you must subtract the voltages produced by other junctions, which are temperature dependent. A good quality thermocouple meter will do this "cold junction compensation" by measuring the temperature inside the meter with a diode or…

  • Test, measure and inspect
Cons
  • So far so good

When I first encountered and then tested this instrument, I was pleasantly surprised at its quality and accuracy. I originally bought it as a "sacrificial" device for use in harsh environments. Now I leave it for more civilized environments! ACCURACY - Thermocouple thermometers are known to be inaccurate at both the low and high end of their range. The supplied sensors are designed for a range from (-) 50 to (+) 300 C. (The real instrument has a much larger range.) It was tested with two NIST…
