Review on 🌡️ Proster Digital Thermocouple Temperature Thermometer: Dual Channel K-Type Thermometer with Backlight LCD and Two K-Type Thermocouple Probes for Various Types (K/J/T/E/R/S/N) by Travis Vasquez

When I first encountered and then tested this instrument, I was pleasantly surprised at its quality and accuracy. I originally bought it as a "sacrificial" device for use in harsh environments. Now I leave it for more civilized environments! ACCURACY - Thermocouple thermometers are known to be inaccurate at both the low and high end of their range. The supplied sensors are designed for a range from (-) 50 to (+) 300 C. (The real instrument has a much larger range.) It was tested with two NIST mercury thermometers. Tests near the lower limit gave no error. Heating to 0°C also gave accurate readings. Tests at half-average temperature (+)20°C showed a 0.5 degree error in one thermocouple and zero error in the other. Replacing the probes showed that the problem was in the thermocouple and not the device. Tests near the upper limit showed a minimal deviation of 0.5 degrees. But it fluctuated +/- the actual temperature. Using other sensors, such as other K-type sensors and some J, T, and E-types, has shown similarly excellent results. Remember: a) Water boils at different temperatures at different altitudes, and daily barometric pressure also changes the boiling point. Buildings under pressure, such as large office towers, also change the boiling point. At my storage altitude of 760 mmHg (29.9 inHg) per day, water boils at 99°C. (210.3 degrees Fahrenheit) b) Keep the sensor away from the sides and bottom of the container and ensure it is kept out of the flow of bubbles. Ice bath tests are not as sensitive to atmospheric or altitude changes. Just be sure to stay away from real hard ice and in the water. Even my expensive instruments have some accuracy difference - a little more than this Proster. If you need more accuracy, an analog mercury or alcohol thermometer and barometer and chart are essential. TECHNICAL SUPPORT - Although this tool is very intuitive to use, I had a few "computer" related questions. Belle von Proster answered quickly and explained things well. She was also kind enough to send me a digital copy of the manual when I explained that my eyesight prevented me from reading the printed manual. (Yes, you get an actual printed manual. Who else does that? No one!) EASY TO USE AND QUALITY BUILD - the buttons are huge even I can read them. They are clearly marked. The screen is also very large. The case looks strong, although I don't plan to test it for strength! Even the box it comes in is sturdy. Without reading the manual, it's easy to understand what each button does. The included batteries (including batteries = nice bonus) lasted over 20 hours and still work. .GUARANTEE - According to the manual, the guarantee is 18 months. cool, yes? For something that costs $25.00, that's surprisingly long. (And I know from others that Proster honors its warranties.) Personally, I bought it with a credit card, which gives an extra 2 years. So now I have a 3 1/2 year warranty on the $25 unit. SUGGESTIONS. It would be great if you could set auto shut off time. It's either 1 minute or always on. Setting the backlight timer would be helpful. Mine expires in 4 seconds. (But if it could be longer, I would complain about the short battery life.) Would I buy it again? Yes, of couse. I like it so much I upgraded it from "Use in Harsh Environments" to "Be Kind When You Use It". And I will even put a protective film on the display. In fact, I plan to buy a few more for myself and friends. I don't work for Amazon either. I'm just an end user with a lot of experience and training in temperature measurement, so I wanted to post an unbiased review of performance, as well as my unscientific opinions on usability, warranty, and the like.
