Worth a Try: Power & Hand Tools

I'm genuinely surprised by reviews of this tool "making it easier" to do the job or a convenient substitute for a drill. The end of the screw is a little blunt compared to other hole punches, and the handle is relatively thin and made out of hard (and slippery) plastic. But if you're strong and persistent, and if you're screwing into a somewhat soft and porous surface, and if you're wearing a pair of non-slip rubber gloves, this is a potentially useful tool to start with. But this is anything but an extreme measure. If that doesn't help, don't overlook the Klein Tools #2 Phillips Screwdriver (32216), which can hold a real screw in a lock, creating a tool that resembles a big-necked screw. You don't need a starter at all. And the triple screw starter set called the Narex Gimlet 3" offers three different screw starters, each with a sharper end than Great Neck and each with a comfortable grip that's guaranteed not to slip. I agree, however, that Great Neck The Screw Starter Right is inexpensive and potentially useful enough to be a worthy addition to any basic household tool box.
