Review on ๐Ÿบ AMACO AMA46318R Air Dry Clay - 25 lbs. by Wendy Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for small projects without an oven

This tone is literally amazing. I was able to get 25 pounds of air dried clay for less than half the price of some other brands. Here's what to expect: Clay air dries relatively quickly (it depends on the thickness of the piece, but the size of the piece and the shape of the golf ball will take about 10 minutes to dry on the outside and maybe an hour to dry completely ), so make sure you keep it moist and airtight if you store it (I usually keep a spray bottle handy when I'm sculpting to re-wet the clay); Although it is an air dryer, it is best suited for use in the oven if you intend to expose the finished product to any use. If it has not been fired it will be quite brittle once dry and thinner pieces will break off easily. I use clay to make small figurines and decorations without a kiln and have not had a bad experience. So as long as your piece has a good, solid base without a lot of dangling thin pieces, you shouldn't need a kiln. to bake. If you want to add some strength but don't have an oven, I recommend painting it with a coat or two of polyurethane or something similar. This will ensure the piece stays intact and any colors you paint on or mix in won't rub off or peel off. Update: 07/12/16 Wet plastic bag tied with cable ties and placed in a resealable box. I tested it a few days ago and it's still incredibly moist and holding its texture well. This clay is definitely real and lasts a very long time as long as it stays wet.
