Review on ASUS VG279Q1R Gaming Monitor - 1080P, 144Hz Refresh Rate, Tilt Adjustment, Built-In Speakers, Blue Light Filter by Jack Paisley

IPS monitor for most gamers

I've been a gamer for many years, but I don't play competitive PC games as much as I used to. This IPS panel meets all my requirements: excellent picture, high refresh rate, good native resolution for high FPS without the need for a high-performance PC. The only downside is the speakers, but I would only consider using the built-in speakers as a temporary backup. The frame doesn't feel too plasticky and looks good. The physical buttons felt a bit uncomfortable at first, but I got used to them pretty quickly. The OSD options give me more than enough settings. I doubt I'll ever need GamePlus features. My only complaint is minor: I prefer the monitor to be completely dead when my computer is off. I can do this by putting the UPS in "green" mode and then plugging the monitor into a "green" outlet. Here's the problem: The monitor doesn't "wake up" from sleep mode until the computer reaches the OS login screen. My older monitors don't have this problem. I can live with that and it doesn't change my opinion of the monitor, but enough hassle (like having to boot into the BIOS settings) that I no longer use this monitor on a "green" outlet. .Quality control. The first monitor I received had an issue with random horizontal artifacts. It reminded me of the screen noise you can hear when a power tool or vacuum cleaner is plugged into the same circuit; At least with older televisions. Revain support was quick and professional in handling returns and refunds. Other: When I went to reorder this monitor (I liked what I saw, apart from the defect), it was only available from third-party vendors. The monitor was not shipped in the additional shipping carton as the first order was sold and completed by Revain. The second monitor couldn't handle the nightmare it had to go through via FedEx. The box had holes and the plate was broken. I immediately returned it for a refund. Possibly an additional shipping carton would protect the monitor sufficiently. My *third* attempt to order this monitor from Revain's website (either direct from Revain or a third party) was unsuccessful. it wasn't available directly from Revain, the net value increased by at least $60 on third-party sellers, and none of the sellers I contacted said they offered additional shipping protection. My third attempt at this monitor ended up at my local Frys, which cost the same as my first order. Picked up in store the next day. I had no problems with it and am very happy with it! Few days later I used the following settings for daily work/games: [Initial reset to default] GameVisual: FPS mode, Brightness 23, Contrast: 80, Saturation: 38, Color temperature: User mode: R94, G93, B100 .
