Review on ASUS VG279Q1R Gaming Monitor - 1080P, 144Hz Refresh Rate, Tilt Adjustment, Built-In Speakers, Blue Light Filter by Jonathan Yang

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Freesync monitor that works with the latest Nvidia drivers

Pro+Excellent image after adjustment. I used my spyder 5 pro with cal gauge. + IPS panel at 1080p @ 144Hz. + Contrast looks better than my Acer XB271huCons-1080 @ 27" which is noticeable when compared to 1440p @ 27". But I play a lot of fast shooters, so a lower resolution helps. BF5 and Black Ops 4, for example, still look very good. Horizontal lines with and without Free Sync enabled. Although this doesn't happen often during the game. (Driver problem? Don't know, will have to wait.) - I've also had system crashes after using this monitor and the latest nvidia drivers (driver problems again?) - ELMB mode (similar to Nvidia's ULMB mode) is also terrible. Too many ghosts. It almost looks like a double image and is blurry. This is probably the biggest problem with this monitor as I was hoping to use this feature. It's also nice and bright in ELMB @ 120Hz mode. But then again, halos are a big problem. Asus can fix it? I don't know, but it definitely needs work for future monitors. Hopefully this can be fixed with a firmware update without having to send the monitor back. Considering it's an IPS panel, I was surprised that I didn't have any black glare or IPS lights except in the bottom right corner (thankfully I'm using a brightness level of 20). that basically gets rid of it) but to be honest my Acer XB271hu has worse than this monitor and the contrast looks way better than the Acer. If you can avoid or don't need ELMB mode and have patience with Nvidia drivers, I recommend this monitor. I would love to give this monitor 5 stars but the ELMB ghosting needs to be fixed. I don't know if it's just this monitor, but it's terrible compared to Nvidia's ULMB mode. bad ELMB mode. My new monitor doesn't have these issues so I think the first one was just bad. This monitor is currently the best @1080p monitor if you are looking for 144Hz and great colors. It actually outperforms my XB271HU after calibrating with Displaycal software. The picture looks better and is sharper on this replacement monitor. But there is one problem - IPS glow or black light in the lower right corner. I don't notice it, and it's not that bad, but it's there. I don't see any other monitor that beats this one at 1080p for a while if you're looking for good color and a high 144Hz. They're coming out with 240Hz 1080p IPS panels sometime this year, but this monitor is the best 1080p monitor I've seen.
