Review on ASUS VG279Q1R Gaming Monitor - 1080P, 144Hz Refresh Rate, Tilt Adjustment, Built-In Speakers, Blue Light Filter by Reggie Banks

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Quality monitor at an affordable price

This review is dedicated to the VG278Q monitor. This is a HUGE improvement over my 60Hz monitor. I will never go back to anything below 144Hz again. Dead pixels and monitor issues so far. Got it in the mail yesterday and as many reviewers said, this thing comes right out of the box. After reviewing some of the settings that other users have had success with in games, I was able to find something that appealed to me. I'll try to remember to update this in the future when I use the monitor a little more. If you're looking for a relatively affordable 144Hz monitor, look no further. I spent a lot of time researching different monitors before deciding on this one and I am very happy with my purchase. I have yet to play Fortnite with it, but the CS:GO gameplay quality is much smoother compared to the old 60Hz Scepter monitor I was using. Update: I still love the monitor. In the Tomshardware forum I found some settings that I liked. Here they are: Cinema Mode Contrast 83 Saturation 42 Color Temperature - Custom Mode - All Colors set to 83 Skin Tone - Natural Sharpness 50 No Traces 40 ASCR ON (adjusts brightness based on content - if you want your monitor to be brighter, rotate just turn it off and adjust the brightness) the monitor was connected to my GPU with a DVI dual link cable. *Update 11/18/18* My monitor occasionally went out for a split second. I did a little research and found several troubleshooting methods. The first was the possibility that my DVI-D cable was defective. So I bought a new cable, tested it and the problem remained, only worse. So I sent the cable back and went back to my original cable. I figured I might try a Displayport 1.2 cable. I bought and connected a VESA certified DP1.2 cable. I had no issues with the original screen going black. Now I had a new problem, the colors are TERRIBLE! Even with the necessary adjustments to get a good picture on this monitor, nothing came of it! I ended up going back to the DVI-D cable I originally used. I hope the problem doesn't get worse and doesn't go away entirely. If that happens, I'll have to do some more research and development. I'm deducting 1 star from the monitor's rating because it can't provide a high quality image through the DP1.2 connector. When I press Alt+Tab outside of the game everything zooms in when I use DP. This is not the case when using Dual Link. Hope this helps someone! ***Update 6-15-20*** The monitor is still working, the dimming problem is long gone. Do you think it could be a problem with the drivers on my GPU? In any case, who knows, the monitor is worth the price and continues to serve me well.
