Tekonsha 119251 ZCI Zero Contact Interface for 2013 Audi A6 Trailer Lights

There is not much information about the Audi A6 with trailer hitch. Who puts the clutch on correctly on the A6? Well that's exactly what I did, this car has an incredible amount of wiring and controls and very little information on how to install trailer lights. The lights are PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) LEDs. There are many wires to choose from so you will need a schematic or you can do it using the elimination method like me. The Audi is actually lighter than most cars as the battery is in the trunk and there are ground connections and 12V. First you need a few tools: wire strippers, wire cutters, 4-pin trailer tester connector, LEDs, peep tools. back panels and insert the spring clips, on my machine I also needed a torx screwdriver and 10mm sockets to remove the bottom panel. Search for turn signals, brake lights and driver running lights (DRL) by elimination. This step took a few hours. You need to plug the car into a charger or leave it running from time to time. Most of the time is spent removing the panels and wrapping them with tape to get at the wires. If you have access, it's not difficult.1. Start by finding a home for the controller and installing the controller. 2. Connect the positive and negative 12V DC input. Crimp the fuse holder to the positive wire and the controller. 3. If you don't have a wiring diagram, you can start eliminating your lighting. At Audi you get 3 out of 4 on the right side, so I started with that. I spread the wires enough to clip 3 sensors. Then a sensor is clamped on the left side. 4. Connect the lighting tester to the trailer's 4-pin socket. Insert fuse, go to car, turn on power, turn on headlights, step on brake 6 seconds, turn turn signals on 6 seconds each. Look at your tester while touching the brakes, turning on the DRLs and turn signals. Most likely, not everyone will get something on the first try. Just keep repeating this process until the sensors detect all the lights. 5. Then use the supplied tape and cable ties to securely attach the sensors to the wires. Make it beautiful and get all your panels back. I'm not sure, but you may need to relearn the light if your battery dies. It's easy, just pull the fuse, plug it back in and turn on each light for 6 seconds.

Pros
  • Works with all vehicle types including standard, PWM and/or multiplex systems to give full brightness to trailer lights during operation; Can be used in 2- or 3-line systems
Cons
  • Expensive
