I've used four different vacuum wine corks over the past few years. One brand is similar to Vacu Vin in that it has an external pump. They don't develop as much suction as the Vacu Vin and only hold a vacuum for a day or two. After 3 or 4 years 3 one of the plugs completely failed (won't close at all) while the other held the vacuum for about 30 minutes. The other two brands had built-in pumps. I preferred the convenience of built in pumps but there was less suction power, they only held a vacuum for a couple of days and failed completely after about two years. Meanwhile, my original Vacu Vin, which I've had for about 10 years, still holds a vacuum for a few more days. And the new Vacu Vins I just received (real Vacu Vins, not fake) held a strong vacuum seal on a freshly opened bottle of red wine for 12 days.
