Doesn't even come close to spec but mostly works

Overall good value for money BUT if you're buying this to get what it promised it's nowhere near : a . When power is applied, my MacBook Pro shows 60W of charging instead of the advertised 87W (using Apple's standard 87W adapter), even when not charging.2. The HDMI resolution is lame. I have 4K hooked up to my TV, sometimes it recognizes 1080p, sometimes 4K but you have to play around and it's very finicky, refining, rebooting and clearing the NVRAM all helps but not 100%. The strange thing is that when detected in 4K, macOS recognizes a display with a very strange resolution like 6Kx4K, but correctly manages a 4K30p3 display. You will NOT get Gigabit Ethernet. Although it's a gigabit network interface, closer examination shows that the adapter is connected to the USB 2.1 bus at a maximum speed of 480 Mbit/s, so it can't reach gigabit speeds in any way. Oddly enough, this hub only has USB 3 ports. However, your effective speed may not even come close as speeds seem to drop off drastically with heat, two consecutive tests passed for me with 200Mbps up to 20Mbps. Note that even my internet speed is faster and I get 300mbps on my 5 year old wifi router so ethernet is basically useless. While the build quality looks great, the hub gets quite hot even when not charging (but is plugged into the power bank) and only works effectively with a 4K monitor, mouse and keyboard. still a bit buggy, but the ethernet situation suggests corners have been trimmed to achieve the desired price point.

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Has flaws
