No pairing or extra steps. Couldn't be easier to use. All I did was put in two triple batteries, hit the power button and got back to work. Every button and function worked correctly with my TV. Had to buy a new remote after my original Samsung remote stopped working. Not quite sure why? Has not been damaged or broken. Just stopped working. My TV isn't that old either, maybe for others. A 65-inch Samsung smart TV that's about four years old. Cool remote control. I love the backlight. It's worth it if you need it.
