I have no idea how it works in a car situation. I bought this pump because there was a video on YouTube of one of these being turned into a jar sealer for permanent food storage. As some may know, most Foodsavers products have a port that allows you to use a device instead of branded bags to suck air out of standard mason jars/lids, allowing for long-term storage of items like rice. and beans. But what if the Foodsaver is unavailable, broken or without power? This pump is the perfect solution. There is a difference between this pump and the one on YouTube: this pump comes with a set of adapters and a good rubber hose. The guy who made the video used an aquarium hose and somehow manually inserted it into the top of the can sealant. I found that the black rubber hose included in the kit fits perfectly into one end of the clear Foodsaver utility hose, allowing the two hoses to be used together. The other part I really like about this setup is that it has a vacuum gauge attached to it. shows pressure. For cans, it's set at around 20/Hg, which takes about half a minute of pumping. Once this is achieved, simply pressing the release button under the pressure gauge equalizes the pressure and allows the can sealing accessory to be removed. My Foodsaver is in the kitchen, but it's on a shelf and it's not always convenient to pull it down to seal it. Thing. This handy device fits in your desk drawer and takes care of it right away. Worth the money for me!
