After I replaced a 20-foot length of wall in my basement! I used to pick up nails and screws. Per photos, I used an old jewelry cleaning jar to place the magnet in, so as to keep it clean. collected about 2 pounds of nails. I then removed the magnet from the jar, and voila! Clean magnet, no direct contact. If using in water it will rust so dry and oil! Let's say it's a magnet with a line attached. It is strong relative to the metal it will latch on to. The rest is up to your intelligence.1. If you do not re-knot the line, (at least tighten it up!) A bowline is always good. You will lose it !2. If you do not like rust. wax or oil it up before dipping in the river. Then dry after using and re-oil. I hear the plating will easily rust/rub off. If you don't like the hole on the magnet face, rub oil or wax on the threaded screw hoop / insert then fill hole on the other side with a JB weld, (oil/wax will easily release the metal loop). All in all, a good product looking forwards to Playing with soon.Just added another pic. . Moved my fire pit and pulled all the nails out of the ash. Magnet is clean as when I purchased with its container and the nails
