Review on Soundbar Sony HT-CT290/HT-CT291 by Candra ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It has some flaws but the product is usable.

I am a sound engineer by profession and I love good sound. Watched ads, decided to ate the sound on TV! Purchase was disappointed. The panel is cheap in terms of filling and performance, and this rubbish failed to surpass the built-in sound (60w) in the Phillips TV 9 series. Sony doesn't have quality speakers in general. There is experience in using their products from headphones to wireless headsets and centers. The sound is always very weak compared to competitors. I don't know why this time I decided that it would be a good sound, probably marketing! Tested in studio from HD receiver/PS4/Tv/PC (HDMI ARC/Optical) Perhaps my opinion is too critical, and someone will like this panel. But, believe me, I listened to tons of equipment, musical instruments, expensive systems, mixers. And this "something", even by the standards of the initial DC, is incredibly bad. For comparison, listen to panels from Phillips at this price point! The difference is noticeable.

Pros
  • 1. Compactness 2. Easy to set up 3. Tolerable, in a bad sense of the word, quality of music and videos on YouTube (8000r Microlab or Edifer speakers are more reasonable than this) 4. Perfect for inexpensive TVs with built-in sound (20w). If you like the brand and not pretentious hearing. 5. The sub sounds good and beautiful, if you evaluate without a panel .
Cons
  • 1 Don't watch reviews and don't trust reviews. Go to the store and check it out! 2 The sound of the speakers is very flat. It's unpleasant to listen. 3. The sampling rate leaves much to be desired. Therefore, the sound is flat! (For TV this is not critical, the signal there is also flat and cut off, in HD TV format * PCM it will already be noticeable that the quality is so-so) 3 Sub can not be placed far from the panel, because hacky quality of the panel begins to overshadow the good quality of the subwoofer! 2. 300w here according to the principle - higher volume / worse sound (The signal-to-noise ratio here is below 85 dB. This is not advertised anywhere, apparently a secret!) 3 Movies in HD/BD 5.1 format are not broken into separate lines properly. And does not sum to linear 2.0. The voices and the background live a life of their own. An excellent trainer for a concert sounder. You sit increase or decrease the volume depending on the situation. 4. Bluetooth here is the old protocol! Therefore, there will be no crystal clear sound transmission from a phone or tablet. The quality is lost, there is no point in this bonus. Just play or show guests. They will love it for sure!
