Review on Magnetic Oil Drain Plug Bolt With Gasket Washer Seal Included - PitVisit Reusable Aluminum Plug (M14 X 1.5, Silver) For Optimal Engine Maintenance by Michael Heidelberg

Revainrating 3 out of 5

*UPDATED 7/16/19* [ORIG] Nice drain plug but crappy seal / crush washer tore and leaked.

UPDATE: KUDOS to PIT VISIT! Today, unsolicited, I received an apology letter (see second image) and a replacement drain plug which has been updated based on my original feedback. The new plug now has a higher quality crush washer that appears to match the OE crush washer in diameter and thickness. The difference from the initial plug received is noticeable and looks more like I had expected. THIS is what good service looks like. Bad things can happen to the best companies and what sets one apart from the next is how they handle it. PIT VISIT recognized the problem, corrected the issue, and replaced the failed item promptly to ensure my satisfaction as a customer of a relatively inexpensive product rather than ignoring my complaint.I will be installing the new drain plug with the new washer in 5,000 miles and guarantee there will be an update afterward.I HAVE UPDATED MY REVIEW FROM ONE STAR TO FOUR STARS TO REFLECT THE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE INCLUDING UPDATING OF THE PRODUCT ITSELF. I WILL UPDATE TO FIVE STARS AFTER A SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION.['99 Porsche 996] Item looked great in the package as expected. Opened and compared to OE drain plug and used crush washer. New plug was same diameter and threads were correct. Plug is about 1/2" "taller" with magnet protruding upward into case. But the washer is half the width of the OE crush washer. It only covers half the drain plug seat. I went ahead and used it, torqued to spec and added Mobil1. No leaks after first 4 quarts, so I continued. After adding all 8.7qts I started the engine to check oil level. In just two minutes the drain plug seal began leaking heavily. I re-torqued with 1/2 ft lb extra, but still leaking. Re-drained oil and removed oil plug to find the seal had sheared into a fine strand on one side, and twisted on itself. I placed the old OE washer onto the new magnetic plug and it fit perfectly, covering the entire seat of the plug unlike the provided washer. With no spare crush washer, I reinstalled the OLD OE crush washer and old OE plug, and.NO LEAK even with the used seal washer. This was a huge disappointment and just not worth the frustration of doing the oil change twice simply because of a .02 washer. I had torn open the package and tossed the packaging so I won't bother returning it. If you are considering this, buy yourself a replacement crush washer and check out the diameter difference before you install to save yourself frustration.

Pros
  • Should've gone with team red though, to match Toyota
Cons
  • If not installed properly, it may cause leaks in the engine and damage other components
