The fiber is soft and silky and could probably be used to make small critters but should not be used for nesting birds. 1 Canary hanging from the nest wrapped this fiber around its feet and toes. There were 3 birds in 3 different cages with 3 different types of nests but they all got stuck on the 2nd day after I gave them the material. There was no tension at all and I had to use cuticle scissors to loosen it. The canary was fine, one of the finches was fine, although her leg was bright red and her foot was white where blood flow was blocked when she tried to free herself. Once circulation was restored, she recovered and was fine. The third finch broke his toe trying to free himself before I found him. I'm grateful it wasn't his toe. Luckily he loves cayenne pepper so we take care of any pain or discomfort he is having until it heals. The texture of this stuff is really awesome and I'm sure I'll find a use for it in a craft or maybe floral art. Location but definitely not for my nesting birds.
