If your door requires a round latch hole, this is not your door knob. I have never seen a doorknob in my life where it was impossible to remove the flat latch. This one seemed to be able to come loose, I reached for a screwdriver to unscrew it, but it just kept bending as you can see in the photos. The shaft itself was bent where I tried to take it apart. I tried to loosen it so I could unscrew it, that's how it should be done. I held the mechanism shown in my first picture and twisted the curved clock plate to remove it. This twisted the whole cylinder, leaving my mechanism out of alignment and unusable. I used pliers and tried to twist it back but it just bent the body of the mechanism. As you can see from my last photo, my doors are not designed for a flat switch plate. I need a round cylinder. This lock set comes without a round cap. Unfortunately (for me) I have found that this lock set cannot be used in a round hole (as my lock set is now broken). The pen itself seems to be well made, you just have to know what exactly you are buying. I don't see anywhere in the description that it's a flat latch, just a lock set. Even cheap doorknobs from Walmart can be a round latch. I am very disappointed in this Amazon Basics door knob.
