I now have about four of these on each reptile tank to control the temperature at various key points in the terrarium. You can tape, tape or just cover the wires inside the tank so they are not visible. I recommend attaching suction cups where needed for a long term installation. So versatile that I can read temperatures literally anywhere. These small probes can be hidden in skins, under a substrate, in the air, or in a bowl of water. Each thermometer comes with a replaceable battery (in addition to the one you can plug in and use right away). I'd say the battery can last up to six months, but expect more than three. Replacement batteries are quite expensive individually, I recommend buying a multipack. Keeping the reader outside of the tank/low humidity will help prevent premature battery drain. When the digital display begins to dim, it's time for a new battery. The display can be set to Fahrenheit or Celsius. You can save power by turning off the display (by pressing and holding the power button). These things aren't just useful for keeping pets. Universal.
