Review on Monster DHP0050 Diamond Polishing Stone by Nick Garrett

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Has messed up my work for tools and equipment

I work with glass and have used diamond handpads of all grits for over 35 years and work with them wet for grinding and polishing. The good ones from 3M were getting very expensive so I decided to give these a try. I ordered green, black and red pads. This rating applies to everyone. There are two reasons for my one star rating. First, the hand pads wear out fairly quickly, so I wasn't expecting them to last as long as 3M's more expensive brand. But after a few minutes they were useless. Some abrasive remains. I quickly went back to using my 20 year old worn out pads in place of these, they lost their abrasive properties so quickly. But more importantly, the second reason these pads are inferior is that the abrasives are not graded. With the best diamond cutting discs, all abrasive grains are usually the same size. That means "evaluation". If you have a 100 grit sanding disc, all abrasive grit will be 100 grit. This is not the case with these pads and each grit will contain grits larger than the specified grit. As if "100 grit" means some kind of "medium" size, somewhere more, somewhere less. As a result, the overlays left huge deep scratches on my glass from larger grains of glue, and these scratches could not be removed. Every grit I ordered did and I didn't realize until I polished the part that those deep scratches were there. I have used pads on several panes of glass that are now almost destroyed. If you have a coarser product and don't care, then they might be fine. But if you're a handyman who cares about finishing, don't buy these pads. They are short-lived and can ruin your work while you use them. Next time I will buy 3M. They are more expensive but of better quality. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
