They are good for hanging signs. For those worried about plastic caps breaking, I originally had the same issue and came up with a few things to make it a lot better. First, use a hammer with a large surface area for driving nails (bigger than a regular DIY hammer). This gives you more room for error when hitting the head of a nail. So if you miss a little, you still get a good hit. I used the square tip of my Estwing ax and it worked great. (Hold a suitcase just to be safe!) Some claw hammers also have a large square head. Second, I learned not to be a hero by hammering nails. Multiple light hits worked better than heavy hits. The nails are relatively small and bend easily, so trying to drive them in like a railroad crutch will result in many bent nails and broken heads. Bonus tip: They must be driven straight (perpendicular to the nail surface), not at an angle. If you drive them in at an angle, one end of the lid will reach the surface before the other, causing the lids to snap when you try to drive them all the way down.
