Tools and equipment barely functional

Used this OBDII scanner on my 2005 Mustang which the seller describes as compatible. The scanner is only semi-functional, and while the interface and battery voltage table/DTC lookup work, the actual trouble code diagnosis does not work. When I try to diagnose the scanner and check for trouble codes, the scanner freezes and loads indefinitely and does not respond to input until it is unplugged from the car. It's possible my session was unsuccessful, but disappointing nonetheless.
