These work fine. on mats
They are NOT designed for heavy use. We bought these to hold our new rug but the first time I kicked one in the dirt it buckled. They're like a big cheap nail. I drop them in favor of heavy duty stakes that I use to secure the corners of the tent, RV awning, our awnings, etc.
