I bought these rod caps because a friend of mine had them and they looked the way I needed to replace the caps that came with my grips. I've had trouble losing traffic on the narrow trails I ride. With wide fences and narrow gaps with trees, I regularly (sometimes tighter than others) hit and lose trees with the ends of the fences. These metal connectors with their sturdy attachment method looked just what I needed. After I installed them, they are reliable and durable. However, they were cumbersome to install. You can't just put them in the hole and tighten them all the way because the expansion bolt rotates inside the handlebar. Instead, I had to preload them just enough to tighten and then hammer them in. When I tightened them so that they were very difficult to get in, the additional tightening still spun them in the handlebars, making it difficult to get them secure enough to stay inside when I was "herding" a tree .
