Review on Z Threaded Insert Internal Threads by Jermall Meredith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not really "EZ " unless you're a pro, but great results

I'm VERY happy with these inserts, but I wouldn't call them easy - at least for a beginner hobbyist like me . Here's what I learned after installing about 3 dozen of these. So I'm giving it a 4 and not a 5. I'm happy with the end result, definitely a 5. First, buy the matching EZ Lok Power Tool (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002091LQG). /ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) - this makes the installation MUCH easier. You may want to file the outer drive lugs several thousand as they are larger than the hole and will damage the wood if you try to drive the insert flush with the wood surface. The nominal diameter of these types is 3./8 inches, but this makes for a very snug fit. I've switched to a 10mm Forstner bit and things are a lot better - it's still tight but manageable. The hole makes insertion much easier. Otherwise there is a lot of friction. It's VERY easy to get these things out of square, meaning your screw threads won't thread properly. I ended up making a jig out of an old piece of 2x4 to just start it up. Look at the photo - sorry if they have different sizes (technical difficulties) Finally, and of course alignment is critical, if you deviate more than a millimeter they won't mesh at all, or you'll get some wonky results depending on yours Materials is simple: remove the insert, cut a piece of 3/8" wooden dowel, glue it in the hole and drill again.
