I have no idea why Revain needs a "warmth" rating on a USB drive. You mean the temperature during operation, and then what does 1-5 mean? word of honour! In any case, the Lexar M45 64GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive (LJDM45-64GABSLNA) arrived in record time and I checked its movements. Downloading 63GB of video (when reformatted to ExFAT - FAT32 doesn't even try to download more than 4GB) averaged around 45MB/s and remained the same throughout the recording period. The Lexar, while warm to the touch, cooled to my finger temperature within seconds of holding it in my hands. This is probably a good indication that the internal components are good at dissipating heat to the aluminum case and that the case's thermal mass and radiation can easily handle the increase in operating temperature. Remember that the RATE of thermal radiation is proportional to "Delta T". And yes, USB3.1 flash drives generate heat, and that heat has to go somewhere. The first thing I did was attach a short tether to the tiny jump drive. It's quite small and fits snugly in the USB port. Since it's tapered, with no tether to eject the drive, you'll certainly have to wiggle vigorously during ejection, and this will surely wear out both the jump drive and your USB port. As others have pointed out, this beautiful metal thermal loop not only lends itself to pulling, but also allows for a visible tag to be attached. A regular leash serves both purposes, and if you want to get it out of the way in your Tesla Model 3 or Y, for example, you can leave it in an unobtrusive, natural way. use. Even with a short line for sighting and recovery, this durable and thermally efficient Lexar jump drive feels more practical than those ultra-short flash drives that pop up everywhere. See the image for size comparison and if you absolutely NEED a cover, why just steal it off a smaller drive or USB cable. Metal doesn't always beat plastic, but in this case I think so. The Lexar is a little pricey but looks fancy. Check the one star reviews and be careful.
